"I survived the 'Move From Hell' thanks to the Angels at Downsizing Solutions!
The entire chain of events could make a drama of the week episode on Netflix, but I'll summarize so I can say how deeply grateful I am to Mary Dilly and Sheila at Downsizing Solutions for the positive outcomes.
All my furniture and personal possessions were in a climate controlled storage for 7 months in Burlington while I travelled. I'd planned an extended adventure before my 70th birthday but had to cut it short to accommodate major surgery. Since I have dual Canada/US citizenship, I decided to settle and recuperate in Arizona where I already had a network and connections to top surgeons.
Thus began my quest to find a moving company to relocate my contents across the border and transport my goods thousands of miles. I researched and reviewed quotes from seven movers, but ultimately chose the wrong one. (a very different review - trust me!)
Since I was physically unable to return to Canada to supervise the final packing and loading by the moving company, it was vital to find someone I could trust to protect my interests.
Thanks to recommendations from several people, I was able to hire Downsizing Solutions to represent me at move out from storage, and, even more importantly, ensure that all my possessions were safely loaded and stowed for transport to the USA.
Sheila from the Downsizing Solutions team did an amazing job of packing/repacking items that I originally thought would simply move from point A to point B locally. A cross-docked, cross border move required more care and Sheila handled that and photographed everything as insurance against loss or damage.
She also deftly managed the moving company's late arrival and shoddy equipment plan with composure, always protecting my interests and budget.
Mary and Sheila gave me such peace of mind and confidence. They are so professional and skilled at smoothing out wrinkles caused by others who are not as professional.

“I thought that I was looking for movers when I realized that what I really needed was downsizers and movers! I looked up ‘downsizing’ and the first hit was Mary Dilly, the owner of Downsizing Solutions, talking about her full-service moving company on CHCH. I looked up the company website and it really resonated with me.
After moving my parents some time ago, I realized that you don’t have to wait until you are ‘old’ to consider downsizing and that you can dramatically reduce what your kids have to deal with if you downsize earlier.
You have to get to the right mindset to be able to do this, you need to be motivated by something. Another motivation for me was that we decided to renovate our basement which would create a great space for my grandchildren. My advice to others would be to think about downsizing before you think you have to!
I had tremendous guilt attached to having so much stuff but was absolutely satisfied knowing that it is not garbage and that by some way, shape or form my things will be useful to someone else.
